On the evening of 27 August 1979 the anonymous kidnapping kidnaps the singer-songwriter Fabrizio De André and his partner, the singer Dori Ghezzi, at the Sardinian estate of Agnata, near Tempio Pausania, where the couple of artists had recently settled to live.
The imprisonment brings back many memories in De André, starting from childhood and adolescence: the brief dialogue with a priest his teacher, the first guitar received as a gift from the family, the university law studies that he will abandon deciding to devote himself to music , the good nights for the alleys of Genoa together with the friend of a lifetime Paolo Villaggio, the first bourgeois meetings wanted by the rich father Giuseppe, where he will have the opportunity to meet the one who will become his first wife, Enrica "Puny" Rignon, and finally the chance meeting with another singer-songwriter exponent of the Genoese school, Luigi Tenco, with whom he will form a solid relationship that will last until the sudden death of the latter, which occurred by suicide during the 1967 Sanremo Festival. The subsequent friendship and collaboration with the poet Riccardo Mannerini will lead Faber to complete his first recording works.
The music leads the young Fabrizio to perform in front of friends and at the theater, where he is noticed by some record companies of Bluebell Records, with whom he publishes his first studio album, Tutto Fabrizio De André. In these years, the birth of his son Cristiano was of great importance on the family side and on the professional side Mina, who by singing Marinella's song on television gave De André his first great popularity; the work mixes with private life, with the divorce from Puny, the meeting with Dori, the birth of the great emotional bond with Sardinia and the renovation of the villa in the countryside at Agnata, where the two singers will settle shortly after, with De André who became more and more passionate about farming, partly setting aside the musical one.
The harsh condition of prisoners ends for Fabrizio and Dori after almost four months, when De André's father pays the ransom. Once released, Fabrizio does not hold a grudge for the evildoers, and in the following years he resumes writing and singing, remaining next to the now elderly father Giuseppe, who on his deathbed snatches the promise from his son to stop drinking, and finally marries Dori. The story ends symbolically with the breaking of the fourth wall, with the actors of the film gathering to attend the screening of the last concert held by De André, listening in particular to the song Bocca di Rosa.
