Montalbano receives a visit from the engineer Sabatello who brings him some films shot for six years by the now deceased father which always depict the same thing: the fixed shot of a wall. The inspector realizes that behind those films there is a remote affair with tragic and gloomy colors. Meanwhile, in the school attended by Augello's son, two masked individuals burst into the classroom and wreak havoc on the building. Complicating matters is the shooting of a film by a Swedish crew, which includes Ingrid Sjöström's cousin (who moved because her husband was moved). Augello is caught by the director to play the cascamorto with the protagonist of the film, putting Montalbano in difficulty.
