Alvarez Kelly is a 1966 film directed by Edward Dmytryk, based on a historical fact that really happened (the Beefsteak Raid of September 1864)
During the American Civil War, Alvarez Kelly, a cow farmer, sells his herd to the Northerners but along the way he and his herd are "hijacked" by a Southern department led by Colonel Rossiter. The Northerners under Major Stedman chase them but the first manage to reach their destination, Richmond, the besieged and starving city. But in the end Alvarez Kelly "blows" the colonel's girlfriend.
