Goin 'South is a 1978 film directed and starring Jack Nicholson, starring Mary Steenburgen (making her big screen debut) and John Belushi.
The film was co-written by John Herman Shaner and produced by Harry Gittes, both of Nicholson's longtime friends since his early Hollywood stints.
It took only 2 months to shoot the entire film (August to October 1977). All the filming of the film was concentrated in the town of Long Horn (created specifically for the film), near Julia's house, and only the opening scene shows a desert, used for the pursuit and capture of Moon.
