Vera Cruz is a 1954 western film directed by Robert Aldrich. Based on a subject by Borden Chase (pseudonym of Frank Fowler), the film is characterized by the different ethical views of the two protagonists and the violent attitudes that are represented.

The historical context is that of the Mexican conflict of 1866, during the French intervention in support of the Mexican emperor Maximilian of Habsburg in opposition to the republicans of former president Benito Juárez.
