wkrótce informacje docierają do rządowego Biura Wywiadu Naukowego ( OSI ). Śledztwem mają się zająć Andrew Nivens i jego syn Sam
oraz młoda pracowniczka NASA Mary Sefton. Penetracja statku kosmicznego niewiele wnosi do sprawy, za to niepokój wzbudzają dziwnie
zachowujący się mieszkańcy Ambrose. Wprawdzie wizyta w lokalnej stacji telewizyjnej kończy się ucieczką, ale pracownicy OSI wiązą
w metalowej walizce ciało obcego.
