1830. Niccolò Paganini, virtuoso violinista acclamato in tutta Europa e famigerato donnaiolo, è all'apice della sua carriera e il suo nome è spesso collegato agli scandali amorosi, di cui si è reso protagonista. Poiché gli manca ancora fama a Londra, il suo manager Urbani fa sì che l'impresario inglese John Watson e la sua amante Elisabeth Wells rischino il tutto per tutto nel proporre la musica del violinista. Grazie alle recensioni entusiaste di Ethel Langham, Paganini ottiene più successo di quanto immaginava e, costretto a nascondersi da orde di ammiratori, si rifugia in casa di Watson, dove conosce la di lui figlia Charlotte. Cantante di talento, Charlotte incanta Paganini ma ciò causa qualche preoccupazione di troppo in Urbani, che comincia a predisporre un diabolico piano.
