La serie, con componenti drama, crime e comedy, vede protagonista Lucy Lawless nei panni di Alexa Crowe, una ex-detective australiana residente a Melbourne che, ormai ritiratasi dopo la morte del marito, cerca di destreggiarsi nella sua nuova vita da donna in pensione anticipata. La sua nuova routine, però, ha breve durata perché sotto insistenza di un suo vecchio collega, Alexa torna in maniera non ufficiale ad aiutare la polizia nelle indagini degli omicidi più disparati.
La location della serie si sposta dalla bellissima città australiana di Melbourne ad Auckland in Nuova Zelanda (città dove Lucy Lawless ha la sua residenza).
Confermato il ritorno di Ebony Vagulans che probabilmente diverrà coprotagonista a tutti gli effetti. L’attrice è interprete di Madison Feliciano, l’esuberante aiutante di Alexa con la quale nella prima stagione strinse un rapporto sempre più stretto e complice.
Alexa, nella nuova realtà di Auckland, si ritroverà a risolvere dieci nuovi crimini assistita ancora una volta da Madison. Le due saranno alle prese con personaggi pericolosi che le metteranno alla prova con nuove sfide, nuovi pericoli, nuove frustrazioni e… nuovi flirt
