_DESCRIPTION_: Robert Albert Bloch (April 5, 1917 – September 23, 1994) was an American fiction writer, primarily of crime, horror, fantasy and science fiction, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is best known as the writer of Psycho, the basis for the film of the same name by Alfred Hitchcock. Bloch wrote hundreds of short stories and over 30 novels. Lefty Freep was a character Robert Bloch created for Fantastic Adventures. Written in the manner of Damon Runyon's first person, relentlessly present tense, Bloch added to the mix an untold number of terrible puns and tortured rhymes, plus an unhealthy dose of fantasy and science fiction. The series ran for 23 stories in FA from April 1942 to July 1950, plus one in Bloch's fannish collection "Out of My Head" and a final tale in "Lost in Time and Space with Lefty Freep," the first volume of what was intended to be the complete Lefty Freep but died with this initial offering. They're all here: 1.Time Wounds All Heels (Fantastic Adventures, April 1942) 2.Gather 'Round the Flowing Bowler (FA, May 1942) 3.The Pied Piper Fights the Gestapo (FA, June 1942) 4.The Weird Doom of Floyd Scrilch (FA, July 1942) 5.The Little Man Who Wasn't All There (FA, August 1942) 6.Son of a Witch (FA, September 1942) 7.Jerk the Giant Killer (FA, October 1942) 8.The Golden Opportunity of Lefty Feep (FA, November 1942) 9.Lefty Feep and the Sleepy-Time Gal (FA, December 1942) 10.Lefty Feep Catches Hell (FA, January 1943) 11.Nothing Happens to Lefty Feep (FA, February 1943) 12.The Chance of a Ghost (FA, March 1943) 13.Lefty Feep and the Racing Robot (FA, April 1943) 14.Genie with the Light Brown Hair (FA, May 1943) 15.Stuporman (FA, June 1943) 16.The Goon from Ragoon (FA, July 1943) 17.You Can't Kid Lefty Feep (FA, August 1943) 18.A Horse on Lefty Feep (FA, October 1943) 19.Lefty Feep's Arabian Nightmare (FA, February 1944) 20.Lefty Feep Does Time (FA, April 1944) 21.Lefty Feep Gets Henpecked (FA, April 1945) 22.Tree's a Crowd (FA, July 1946) 13.End of Your Rope (FA, July 1950) 24.The Return of Lefty Feep (Out of My Head, 1986) 25.A Snitch in Time (LiTaSwLF) |
