Dopo gli eventi di Step up revolution Sean continua a cercare con la sua crew di sfondare nel mondo del ballo. Tra audizioni finite male, sconfitte ad opera di raccomandati e umiliazioni nei bar i Mobs decidono di lasciare Los Angeles per tornare a Miami. Sean invece vuole rimanere e contatta Muso per mettere in piedi una nuova crew così da partecipare a Vortex, una gara di ballo da strada che si tiene a Las Vegas. La scelta ovviamente ricadrà sui membri della crew storica, ognuno ormai dedito ad un altro lavoro ma pronto a mollare tutto per questa nuova avventura.
